Cancer Screening

BREAST CANCER SCREENING

Early screening saves lives. Start with yours.

About Breast Cancer?

"Over time, cancer cells can invade nearby healthy breast tissue and make their way into the underarm lymph nodes, small organs that filter out foreign substances in the body."

Breast cancer screening is a health check that looks for signs of breast cancer before any symptoms show. At ZimSmart Villages, we use ultrasound technology to safely and gently examine the breast for any lumps, abnormal tissue, or changes that could be early signs of cancer.
  • Ultrasound screening can detect lumps that may not be felt by hand
  • Early detection means more treatment options and better outcomes
  • Screening gives you peace of mind and helps you stay in control of your health
  • It’s especially helpful for young women with dense breast tissue, where other methods may not be as effective.
Who Should get Screeened?
  • Women aged 40 and above
  • Anyone with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer
  • If you’ve noticed any changes such as lumps, swelling, nipple discharge, or discomfort
  • A breast lump or thickened area of skin that feels different from the surrounding tissue.
  • A nipple that looks flattened or turns inward.
  • Changes in the color of the breast skin. In people with white skin, the breast skin may look pink or red. In people with brown and Black skin, the breast skin may look darker than the other skin on the chest or it may look red or purple.
  • Change in the size, shape or appearance of a breast.
  • Changes to the skin over the breast, such as skin that looks dimpled or looks like an orange peel.
  • Peeling, scaling, crusting or flaking of the skin on the breast.

CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING

Early screening saves lives. Start with yours.

What is Cervical Cancer Screening?

"Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women in Zimbabwe and ranks as the 1st leading cause of female cancer in the country."

Cervical cancer screening is a quick and important health check that helps detect the human papillomavirus (HPV)—a virus that can cause cervical cancer. At ZimSmart Villages, we use a soft, painless cotton swab to gently collect a sample from the cervix and test for the presence of HPV.
What to Expect During the Screening
  1. A private consultation with a trained female health worker
  2. A gentle swab is used to collect a sample from the cervix
  3. The sample is tested for high-risk HPV strains
  4. Results and guidance are provided confidentially
The test takes just a few minutes and does not require any injections, cuts, or machines. Most women describe it as slightly uncomfortable at most, but not painful.
Who Should get Screeened?
  • Women aged 30 and above
  • Anyone with a family history of cervical cancer
  • Those who are sexually active
When it starts, cervical cancer might not cause symptoms. As it grows, cervical cancer might cause signs and symptoms, such as:
  • Vaginal bleeding after intercourse, between periods or after menopause.
  • Menstrual bleeding that is heavier and lasts longer than usual.
  • Watery, bloody vaginal discharge that may be heavy and have a foul odor.
  • Pelvic pain or pain during intercourse.

Early Detection.
Timely Treatment. Better Lives.

By offering reliable HPV DNA testing, ZimSmart helps women understand their reproductive health status early. This reduces fear and uncertainty, allowing women to take control of their health with confidence.

PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING

Early screening saves lives. Start with yours.

About Prostate Cancer?

"The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located beneath the bladder in men. It is an important part of a man's reproductive health—the prostate's main function is producing fluids that help protect and nourish sperm."

A PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test is a simple blood test used to measure the level of PSA in your bloodstream. PSA is a protein produced by the prostate gland, and elevated levels may indicate prostate conditions such as inflammation, enlargement, or cancer.

    • Early Cancer Detection Finds prostate cancer before symptoms appear, when it’s easier to treat.

    • Tracks Prostate Health Monitors changes linked to enlargement or inflammation.

    • Prevents Late-Stage Disease Reduces risk of cancer spreading and need for harsh treatments.

    • Encourages Regular Checkups Promotes open conversations about men’s health.

Who Should get Screeened?

  • Men aged 45 and above

  • Anyone with a family history of prostate cancer.

When they happen, early-stage prostate cancer signs and symptoms can include:

  • Blood in the urine, which might make the urine look pink, red or cola-colored.
  • Blood in the semen.
  • Needing to urinate more often.
  • Trouble getting started when trying to urinate.
  • Waking up to urinate more often at night.

Early Detection.
